aNewDomain.net—Americans save nearly $5 billion annually by using coupons. Gone are the days of relying solely on the Sunday paper and spending your weekend clipping coupons. Streamline your couponing with these apps for your smartphone.
The Kroger app, for example, links your Kroger Card account to the app on your smartphone. Once you register your account, you can choose from hundreds of coupons available and ‘add’ it to your loyalty card. When checking out at the grocery store, there is no need to open the Kroger app. Simply scan your Kroger Card and the coupon discount is automatically applied. You can also view the weekly ad, build a grocery list, and order prescription refills using the app.
The Safeway app offers a very similar experience. Most regional grocery chains also have apps for easy couponing. Search your app store on your phone to see if your favorite retailer has an app available.
If your grocery store does not have an app, give SavingStar a try. SavingStar partners with several retailers across the country such as CVS and Rite Aid, as well as local retailers. Like the apps from Kroger and Safeway, SavingStar lets you add coupons to loyalty cards.
If none of these options work with your favorite grocery store, there’s Grocery iQ from Coupons.com. Grocery iQ features an easy-to-use grocery list builder, and searches for coupons to match your list. If you don’t need the grocery list integration, download the standalone coupons.com app.
The disadvantage to both apps from coupons.com is the need to print the coupons. Once you have selected the coupons you want to use, the app will email you a link to your coupons for you to print.
Beyond groceries, there is a plethora of apps that serve up discounts and coupons for retail establishments and restaurants. Unfortunately, most require you agree to some form of marketing, usually email, before you can get the discounts. In my tests, the one that stands out is RetailMeNot Coupons. No registration or hoops to go through, it simply serves up codes and coupons that you can use in a wide variety of stores.
