aNewDomain.net—LAUNCH Festival 2013 is sold out. One of the best known tech events in the San Francisco Bay Area for VCs, angel investors, and entrepreneurs, LAUNCH has a pitch fest for early-stage companies, a demo area for existing start-ups, and the LAUNCH Hackathon. The LAUNCH Festival opened on March 4 with the Google Entrepreneurs Breakfast for all event attendees and a welcome by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee.

Keynotes this year are Chamath Palihapitiya, founder and managing partner of The Social+Capital Partnership, Evan Williams, co-founder of Twitter and Obvious, and David Sacks Founder and CEO of Yammer.
New this year is the LAUNCH Hackathon with AngelHack. The Hackathon started on Saturday March 2, the weekend before the event. Developers and designers, more than 500 strong, have arrived to write the code for the next killer app. At any given time, participants code in the big hall to the hum of PCs, hang out in a quiet Wi-Fi hotspot to check email or go out to take a break.
Teams of up to four people or individuals who create teams at the event participated all the way through March 4. There were 218 teams signed up. Massages and food were included.
For winning teams, the stakes were high with three grand prizes of $25,000 investment or $10,000 from Jason Calcanis, founder of LAUNCH, Dharmesh Shah, and Barracuda Ventures. Prizes are subject to change.
For team Stewie and Friends, who are creating a courier service app, taking time to talk to us ate into precious collaboration time. Participants Johnson C., Gabe K., Vasily M., and Michael M. pose for us outside the Design Center in San Francisco.
