aNewDomain.net – Unikey is one of a handful of companies competing for the market of home automation security. Companies like Safemart, Smarthome and ADT are using existing smart device infrastructure to keep costs down.
“By leveraging the confluence of smart phones, apps and wireless technology, we are finally able to offer the ultimate level of home entry convenience and control,” said Phil Dumas, CEO of UniKey Technologies. “We’re very excited to have partnered with Kwikset, a trusted brand and market leader, to bring this technology to the mass market.”
The bolt on your door can now lock and unlock with the touch of your finger. UniKey Technologies has created a lock that turns your smart phone into an electronic key (eKey) once an app is downloaded to your phone.
The eKey will then interact with the door lock when you near it so it will lock or unlock automatically. For the application to work, all that’s required is to replace one’s old lock with UniKey’s new Kwikset Kevo Lock.
This system allows the user to enter his or her home without any additional PINS, key-cards or keys. However, the system allows administrators, the person in charge of the eKey, is able to assign a key to guests that can be used once or anytime, and can control which keys and locks can be used.
Visitors leaving can lock the door by tapping on the lock three times. For those who have a habit of misplacing their phones or decide to upgrade, once you log into the UniKey app again, all your keys will instantly transfer to your new phone. Keys are deleted from the previous phone.
Of course, a last resort is to use an included old-fashion key. In terms of security, the app will let you know when and who is accessing your home or business for an additional charge.
Though currently aimed for homeowners, UniKey is working on additional applications and partners to create keys for multiple people, said a UniKey spokesperson.
Unikey Technologies has partnered with Kwikset, a market-leader in residential lock solutions, to create the Kwikset Kevo Lock – a first in “touch-to-open” technology.Tags: Mobile Apps,Security,Technology
