The last week in January 2013 kicks off the post-holiday break in the tech world with major conferences from top vendors. Events are taking place this week in most major fields, including healthcare, education, and design:
IxDA — Dedicated to the idea that most of the world’s problems are design problems, the IxDa brings together technologists and designers from January 27 through January 31 in Toronto to deal with issues of design, UX, and social interactions. A featured keynote by Trip Odell called “If UX Can Kill it Probably Will: Designing the 70 MPH Interface” discusses the intersection of technology in cars and smartphones and how this has made them more dangerous.
FETC — The FETC conference, which takes place in Orlando, Fla., January 28 through January 31, will feature cutting-edge ideas for the use of technology in the classroom. Major themes at the conference this year include flipped classrooms (using technology to drive learning at home to free up teachers for rigorous and engaged learning activities in the classroom), BYOD, and the role of remote teaching. An especially interesting keynote features Dr. David Sousa discussing “Brain Friendly Schools in the Era of Accountability.”
DesignCon – Taking place January 28 through January 31 in Santa Clara, Calif., this event is billed as “the place where chipheads connect.” It is the largest meeting of board designers, and is the only event to address chip design engineers’ chip/system/package challenges.
IBMConnect — Also in Orlando, Fla., January 27 through January 31, IBM Connect brings together the old Lotusphere and Connect conferences in a social technology conference. One of the larger conferences on this list, the focus this year is on social business.
Global Cisco Live — Leaving North America, Cisco Live London runs from January 28 to February 1. The focus for 2013 is on using the IT department as a springboard for the rest of the enterprise by combining business savvy with technology. Keynote speakers will include several Cisco executives.
Health 2.0 — This two-day conference in Dubai starting January 27 brings together healthcare professionals and solution providers. The concept of Health 2.0 is to find the best ways to use technology to reform healthcare for an enhanced patient experience while saving money and improving outcomes.Tags: BYOD,Software,Technology
