Want to reach millions – even billions of people with your unique video content? Look no further than YouTube: the Internet’s source for everything from cat videos to social business seminars. Over 4 billion hours of video are watched on YouTube every day, and more than a million businesses are cashing in on the network’s advertising resources.
How To Create a YouTube Channel
If you’re a social marketer looking to get started on YouTube, here’s how to create your free channel:
1. Create a Google Account:
YouTube is part of the Google empire, so you’ll first need to create a personal Google account. You will use your Google login credentials to access YouTube. Even if you already have a Google account, it’s wise to create a new one for your business – unless you plan to manage both accounts by yourself.
2. Watch some videos:
Spend some time watching videos! YouTube will keep track of which videos you watch, and it will suggest related videos based on your viewing patterns. Check out examples of small businesses utilizing YouTube to promote their products.
3. Create Your YouTube Channel:
- Select “My Channel” from the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner.
- YouTube will initially align the channel with your personal Google account. To avoid this, choose to name the channel after your business.
- Create a username for your channel. The username cannot contain spaces or symbols.
- Congratulations! Your channel has been created.
4. Customize Your Channel:
Now that your channel is created, consult the Channel Setup Checklist on the right side of the screen to customize it. You can upload your own channel icon, set a banner for the home page, add a description about your business, and connect with Google+ for cross-platform sharing. Check out our channel to see it all in action.
5. Upload a video:
Click the “Upload” button at the top of the page, then click the arrow icon to select a video file, or drag the file into the upload box. Create a title, description, and tags for your video. You can also designate the video’s privacy settings and share it with other social networks.
You may now bask in the warm glow of your uploaded content. Don’t forget to check out our own attempts at viral video here at Tech Page One, or the Dell TehCenter (Enterprise Focused), and on Dell’s YouTube channel at www.youtube/com/dellvlog.
